June 11th – Eat Sardines on Italian Day

Sardines & Portuguese BunsFinding Pieces of Portugal: Sardines & Papo-Secos

Okay, so technically this event is about being Italian.  However, the Portuguese Club of Vancouver participates on Italian Day on The Drive every year serving up grilled sardines and chicken on the street in front of the club’s entrance.  You also get a fresh papo-seco (Portuguese bun) on the side and don’t forget to order a Sumol.  Get there early for they are a popular stop on Commercial Drive or be ready to wait in the long line up of hungry people that forms down the block. Then afterwards stop by the famous Joe’s Café (a Portuguese-owned establishment) for a caffeinated beverage or a sweet ice cream cone treat for dessert.

Time: 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Address: Portuguese Club of Vancouver, 1144 Commercial Drive, Vancouver
Address: Joe’s Café, 1150 Commercial Dr, Vancouver
