It’s finally summertime in Vancouver and that means an end to the festas for a little while, but don’t fret! There are a few events happening this month to tide you over until festa season starts back up again in September. So if you’re looking for ways to celebrate summer, then why not check out some of these July event listings.

July 2nd

Greek Summer Fest (Vancouver) featuring three Portuguese Folklore Groups

July 7th
St. Patrick Regional Secondary Touring Choir will be singing on channel RTP1 on Friday, July 7th on the program “A PRAÇA” at 10am Portugal time and it will be transmitted live around the world. Director and Luso-descendant Tony Araujo will be promoting this three-week tour of Portugal. Here is a schedule of their performances:

Car Free Day on Commercial Drive (Vancouver) and visit PCOV for some grilled sardines and chicken

July 14th – 20th
The Cinematheque presents the Vancouver premiere of The Ornithologist, the fifth feature from Portuguese filmmaker João Pedro Rodrigues. There is a daily showing from July 14th to July 20th.

July 22nd
See singer and Portuguese-Canadian Nelly Furtado perform at the Surrey Fusion Festival. There’s even a contest for you to meet Nelly Furtado. Click here for contest details. Enter by July 16th.

July 20-22 & July 27-29
Lion in the Streets is a two-act play about a Portuguese girl named Isobel. The play is being performed here in Vancouver this month.
