Online European Portuguese Classes for Adults

Portugal in Vancouver has been offering European Portuguese Classes for adults since 2018. Whether you want to learn Portuguese so you can communicate with your family or take a trip to Portugal, register with us to learn this second language spoken by more than 250 million people worldwide!
Our online classes are for adults aged 19 and older. You will meet for 2 hours once a week in a real-time virtual classroom with your fellow classmates and teacher.
You will engage in individual, pair, and group work and have ample opportunity to practice speaking Portuguese and receiving feedback from your teacher. You will also participate in offline learning activities in the form of homework consisting of worksheets and exercises from your textbook.
At this time, we are only offering Level A1 Portuguese classes designed for beginners.

About the course:
- Participants do not need to have any prior knowledge of the Portuguese language
- *Course Fee: $430 (CAD) + GST
- Assessment Fee: $20 (CAD) + GST (for new students only)
- Textbook: The cost of the textbook is not included in the above fee. It can be ordered online here: Passaporte Para Português 1 – Edição Atualizada – Livro do Aluno
- Schedule: Tuesdays from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
- 16 weeks course. See dates below:

- End Date: February 18, 2025
- No classes on December 24, 2024 and December 31, 2024
- On-line (Zoom)
- Learning materials: textbook, hand-outs, and videos
- Teacher: Taught by qualified and experienced teachers whose mother tongue is European Portuguese
*The course fee breaks down to less than $13.50 (CAD) / hour. All prices are in Canadian currency and payments are to be received via bank e-transfer. For all other payment types including other currencies, there is a $25 (CAD) handling fee plus 5% GST. All prices are subject to change without notice. If your payment for the course is not received by the deadline provided in your confirmation email, then you will not be registered for the session.
Curriculum:
We are offering two Level A1 classes: NEW BEGINNERS and BEGINNERS.
Our NEW BEGINNERS class is for those who have little or no previous knowledge of the Portuguese language and will start at Unit 1 in the textbook. To learn more, click here: Level A1 – New Beginners Units 1-8
Our BEGINNERS class will build upon what was learned in the New Beginners class from the last session and will start at Unit 9 in the textbook. This level is also suitable for new students who already have some basic knowledge of Portuguese (basic vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation). Assessment:
New students are required to undergo an assessment to place them in the class that is the most appropriate for their level. The cost of this assessment is $20 + GST and is not included in your registration fee. To take the assessment, fill out the registration form below.

Technical Requirements
Students must possess or have access to the following items:
- Email account
- Computer (with system requirements to support Zoom)
- Speakers
- Microphone (or headphones/headset with a built-in microphone)
- Webcam which must be on during the class (Your teacher wants to see your faces! )
- Reliable Internet connection
All classes will be held on Zoom which is a web-conferencing platform. You do not need a Zoom account to participate in our online classes. You can join via your web browser or the Zoom app. It is strongly recommended that you download the Zoom app as your web browser will have limited functionality. You should download the Zoom app a few days before your first class to ensure that it works with your computer system. If you wish, you can sign up for a free Zoom account at zoom.us/signup.
You will be provided with a Zoom link a few days before your classes start.
