April 4 to April 7 – Portuguese Film “Diamantino”
April 4, 2019 - April 7, 2019
The Weird, Wonderful, and Wildly Entertaining “Diamantino”
Showing from April 4th to April 7th, “Diamantino,” is a 2018 Portuguese comedy-drama film with a mix of fantasy and science fiction. It was screened at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival where it won the International Critics’ Week Grand Prize. Read the description below of this wildly entertaining, weird and wonderful movie from The Cinematheque’s website.
“The Cinematheque presents Gabriel Abrantes and Daniel Schmidt’s delightfully deranged Diamantino (2018), one of the wackiest, wonkiest, and most inspired debut features in recent memory.
This satire of modern-day Europe won the Grand Prix at Cannes’ Critics’ Week and was a 2018 festival favourite. A candy-coated genre mashup that centres on Portuguese soccer superstar Diamantino (Carloto Cotta), a loveable, dimwitted daddy’s boy who attributes his athletic genius to seeing dinosaur-sized “fluffy puppies” on the pitch. When he learns of Europe’s refugee crisis, the colossally cute canines disappear and his footie career crumbles.”
