Classes On Hold Until Further Notice
In accordance with guidance from local health authorities, our European Portuguese language classes for adults are currently on hold until further notice.
This decision is based upon the recommendations made by the Public Health Agency of Canada for mass gatherings. We are unable to properly implement and maintain physical distancing measures in our classrooms. For more information about mass gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic, please visit their website here: Risk mitigation tool for gatherings and events operating during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We all know that the COVID-19 situation is evolving day-by-day and it is hard to predict when we will return to class. So as we navigate through the coronavirus pandemic together, I will update this page accordingly.
In the Meantime, Please Join Our Waitlist
Although we are currently not offering any classes, we do have a waitlist you can join here: Portuguese Language Class Waitlist. At this point in time, the waitlist will be used to collect your name and contact information so we can email you when classes open up again. We also use it to gauge interest in future courses.
What You Need to Know About these Classes
Depending on the number of students who return for another session, our classes are usually a continuation of the previous sessions; therefore, they start off where we left off in the textbook. With most of our students returning for the next session, the pace of learning can vary due to students’ language knowledge and experience. To register, you must be of 19 years of age or older as these classes are for adults only.

Levels & Textbook
We offer Beginner Level classes taught by instructors from Portugal. Our classes use the textbook, “Passaporte para Português A1/A2” recommended by the Camões Institute of Cooperation and Language. This textbook is for beginners and is comprised of 40 units. For our program, we have based our levels on this textbook as follows:
|Textbook Levels||Our Class Levels for Portugal in Vancouver||Units|
|A1||Beginners Module 1||1 to 10|
|A1||Beginners Module 2||11 to 20|
|A2||Elementary Module 1||21 to 30|
|A2||Elementary Module 2||31 to 40|
Bonus! You could earn a CAPLE Diploma from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon!
Not sure what level you should sign up for? Then take our Self-Assessment Test below. This test is to determine if you should take our Beginner Module 1 or Beginner Module 2 class.
Please note that we offer a different Self-Assessment Test for the Elementary Modules 1 & 2 which are provided in class.
We ask that you do not use any assistance to complete the test (i.e. no books, no dictionaries, no Internet, no help from friends nor family, etc.)
These tests are to help not only determine your level but also to provide your teacher with a better picture of your overall language skills. If you don’t know the answer to a question, then select the option “I don’t know the answer.”
After you submit your answers, click on the button that says, “View Score.” If you score…
50% or lower = Beginner Module 1
51% or higher = Beginner Module 2
